We can stay disconnected, blaming our mistakes on those standing next to us in the crowd, or we can stand on our chairs, raise up our hands, and scream for the band like there is no tomorrow. The video for Down In Flames takes place in a dark, enclosed room where the band stands in a tight circle, symbolizing unity, strength and a team facing challenges together. The atmosphere is heavy, almost claustrophobic, with minimal light cutting through the darkness. Interwoven with the band’s performance is a side story where the vocalist stands with her back to a wall, portraying the emotional pressure described in the lyrics – the feeling of being stuck, overwhelmed, and forced to confront her inner struggles. These two elements blend into a visual expression of pushing through darkness as a group while each person fights their own battles.
Concept and Inspiration behind “Down In Flames”
We chose to shoot a video for “Down In Flames” because the song’s themes of pressure, struggle, and unity felt naturally visual and since it’s the album title track. Our first idea was a dark, minimal performance setting, but it evolved into using a circle formation to symbolize fellowship, contrasted with isolated shots of the vocalist to show the “back against the wall” feeling in the lyrics. The aesthetic was inspired by darker alternative rock videos that use light and space to create emotional tension. We focused on simple, strong imagery shadows, limited light, and confined spaces – to mirror the song’s emotional weight. – Charlotte
Design & Production of “Down In Flames”
The most challenging part of filming was working in such a dark, hazed and enclosed space. Getting the right balance between shadows, movement, and visibility took time, and we had to be patient to capture the atmosphere we wanted. We also didn’t expect how intense the smoke and lighting setup would feel once we were performing inside it – it definitely added to the mood, but it made the shoot physically demanding. One memorable moment was when the circle formation finally clicked on camera. Seeing how strong and unified it looked gave us a sense that the concept was really working. The isolated wall shots were also powerful to film, because the energy completely shifted from the group dynamic to something much more internal and vulnerable. Working with the director was a smooth process. He understood the vision right away and created a comfortable environment where we could experiment and adjust things on the fly. His ability to guide the mood, lighting, and pacing was key to bringing the song’s emotional weight to life. – Charlotte

Yes, the video uses a few key symbols. The band standing in a circle is the strongest one. It represents unity, support, and the idea of facing challenges together. In contrast, the shots of the vocalist alone against a wall symbolize isolation, loneliness, frustration, and the inner struggle described in the lyrics. These two images play off each other to show the tension between personal battles and collective strength. We chose black and white tones and minimal lighting to mirror the heavy mood of the song. The shadows, flickering lights, and smoky atmosphere reflect the feeling of being overwhelmed while still searching for clarity. The limited color palette helps keep the focus on emotion rather than visual distraction. The video can definitely be interpreted in more than one way. There’s no strict storyline, instead, we aimed for a visual mood that captures the themes of pressure, connection, and facing your breaking point. Personal Connection between “Down In Flames” alternative metal music video & the song
The video isn’t tied to one specific event, but it reflects experiences we’ve all had – moments of pressure, doubt, and feeling pushed to the edge, balanced by the support we give each other as a band. That mix of isolation and unity is something we know well, both personally and creatively. This video marks a step forward for us artistically because it focuses more on mood and symbolism than on a literal storyline. It shows that we’re becoming more confident in using simple visuals to express heavier emotions. What we hope people take away is a sense of recognition: that everyone hits dark moments, but you don’t have to face them alone. Yes, we will release one other music video as well, the visual style of that one is different and that last video will have no performance part, only a storytelling perspective. We would like to be more experiential and creative in the future and maybe include some actors and work with a production crew. – Charlotte
